Skiing and Snowboarding

Well-groomed ski slopes, fantastic powder slopes and the various levels of difficulty for beginners and professionals are best prerequisite for an limitless winter fun.

Modern funiculars and chairlifts bring our guests up the mountain over 2000 meters in a very short time. There is a slope network of over 247 kilometers is available. You can choose from many family slopes, demanding steep slopes and also magnificent powder slopes.


Because of the altitude to 2400 meters the winter season in the Lungau is very long. While in other regions the spring has already started, in Lungau are still very good snow and slope conditions. The Lungau is known as the sunniest county and also as the coldest place in Austria.

In St. Michael and the surrounding area (St. Michael, Katschberg, Mauterndorf, St. Margarethen) there are a plenty of ski schools to offer skiing lessons for all ages and beginners as well as advanced skiers.


With the "SkiLungau ski pass" you have "free ride" across the the whole Lungau (in all skiing resorts). Included are the ski areas Katschberg-Aineck , Grosseck - Speiereck and Fanningberg with 150 kilometers of slopes, 32 lifts and also the small lifts St. Michael, Schonfeld, Zederhaus and Lessach.

With a valid ski pass you can travel free of charge with the ski buses while the funicular operating hours without restriction throughout the room Lungau.

Cross country skiing

In the Lungau there are more than 20 trails with about 200 kilometers length which offer a lot of variety. Guaranteed snow until spring is on the higher trails in Schönfeld- Thomatal, Karneralm, on Prebersee, in Mariapfarr - Lignitz and also on Katschberg. Access points to the trails can be easily reached by the buses of the Lungau.

The varied trail network of the Lungau was awarded the "largest contiguous trail network in Austria" and due to various high-altitude trails with "absolute snow guarantee".

Sledding

In Katschberg there is daily (during the holidays) and otherwise every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday the possibility of a 1.5 kilometer-long natural toboggan run that is lit with a floodlight system. Sleds can be rented, the ascent to Gamskogelhütte takes about 40 minutes starting from the center Katschberg. The toboggan run can also be used during the day.


Snowshoe hiking and ski mountaineering

If exploration of the winter landscape has to be more individual, far away from the slopes and village centers. The prevailing silence in an untouched winter landscape conveys a deep connection with the nature.

Winter driving training on Lungauring

This is the right thing for car lovers. Test your driving skills on ice. Lungauring offers a handling course, combi dynamic surfaces, circular paths, gradient hill slide and much more for tire testing.

If you are looking for relaxation away from the pistes, you will find it with a 30 minute drive from St. Michael. In Altenmarkt lies the newly built Amade Spa. The Family Sole Spa with the first looping slide in Austria offers a weather- independent bathing, sauna and leisure experience for the whole family. The huge sauna area (indoor and outdoor pools) and the 5 topic saunas including Hammam & steam grotto provides a special kind of relaxation.
